The challenge
Semeyny Dom ("Family House") is a private care home for elderly people in the Leningrad region. Families choose a care home at a hard moment, often with a sense of guilt. They don't decide based on marketing promises but on details: who is on duty at night, what the daily rate includes, whether they can visit without notice. Vague words about "care and comfort" don't help; they raise suspicion.
Money was the second barrier. In this niche, prices are often hidden behind "call for details", and families expect extra charges for feeding, hygiene or lifting a bedridden resident. The audience was the third factor: adult children aged 45–65, often reading on a phone in a hurry, and elderly people themselves, for whom small text and low contrast are a real obstacle. The topic is medical, so names, job titles and checkable details matter. All of it had to be done in one month.
What I built
I built the site on Next.js with TypeScript, Tailwind CSS and React. Pages for care services, prices, articles and contacts are pre-generated, so they open fast even on a weak mobile connection. Each care service has its own address, so families can find the page for their situation from search. The price list and services are described with types, so a price change or a new service can't fall out of sync between sections.
Tailwind keeps large type and solid contrast on every page, and React powers the low-vision switch, mobile menu, gallery, FAQ and tour request forms with validation.
Key features
- Facts on the first screen — round-the-clock nursing, daily doctor rounds, five meals a day, 2–3 bed rooms with call buttons, open visiting and a daily report to the family.
- Separate care service pages — Alzheimer's, dementia, bedridden residents, wheelchair users and recovery, each with its own page.
- Open price list — every room type with prices, extra services with what they include, and a clear "already included" block.
- Four steps to move in — call, tour, documents, move-in, with what happens at each step.
- People of the home — a staff page, a word from the director, family reviews with names and a photo gallery.
- Articles by medical staff — answers to families' questions, each with an author and their job title.
- Low-vision mode — a header switch that raises font size and contrast.
